Quantity Surveyor – Groundworks/ Civils

We are searching for a Quantity Surveyor with civils experience to help deliver a project in Northampton. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a skilled Intermediate Quantity Surveyor to join the team for at least 12 months, before likely moving onto the next project
We are looking for a well experienced Quantity Surveyor to join the project team in Northampton for a 1-year contract, with strong potential for further project opportunities. You will work on your own initiative, managing commercial aspects of the project while reporting to senior management. This role requires a proactive individual who can confidently handle challenges and contribute to the success of the project.
The Quantity Surveyor, under guidance of the Senior Quantity Surveyor and the Managing Quantity Surveyor, is responsible for commercial management of project(s) and provision of commercial support to the project teams for the duration of the project, from tender handover to completion.Broadly, the Quantity Surveyor ensure compliance with contractual requirements of the project, maximise value and ensure that the Company ‘s objectives are achieved.
Main Responsibilities:
* Liaising with Project Managers/Site Managers, clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
* Liaise with Client representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including agreement of variations, claims and additional payments.
* Carry out cost management, including forecasting.
* Updating monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans.
* Allocating and monitoring the work of subcontractors.
* Reviewing construction documents and preparing quantity requirements.
* Scrutinising maintenance and material costs, as well as contracts to ensure the best deals.
* Documenting any changes in design and updating budgets.
* Managing costs to make sure that the initial budget is not exceeded.
* Calculating material quantities and costs, labour costs and an achievable project timeframe.
* Maximising potential project income.
* Actively seek to improve processes and procedures.
* Monitoring subcontractors, drafting of accurate sub-contractors’ safety practices, construction progress and material needs, including any changes which may impact costs.
* Generate positive cashflow on the project and ensure we are paid on time by our customers.
* Writing reports detailing costs and progress for clients.
* Liaise with the client, client representatives on commercial issues, including timely agreement of variations, claims and additional payments.
* Preparing applications for payments.
* Work with site management to forecast predicted spend and cash recovery and ensure that both are kept in line with target.
* Share best practice with others and be proactive in advising site teams on costs and management of them.
* Maintain and build good client relationships.
* Maintain and build good supply chain relationships.
* Monitory material and plant expenditure.
* Monitor Subcontractor materials wastage.
* Monitor timely contractual notification issue.
* Promotion of Company at all times.
Requirements:
* Previous experience of the construction industry.
* HND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying
* Familiarity with the various forms of contract and knowledge and understanding of construction law.
* Previous experience of commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates, and accruals calculations.
* Knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
* Ability to work effectively in a team and delegate, but also to work on own initiative.
