Alternative Provision Teaching Assistant – Secondary (Wakefield & Surrounding Areas) Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunities Make a difference where it counts! We need dedicated Teaching Assistants to support secondary-aged students in SEMH and alternative provision settings, helping them achieve their potential in a supportive environment. Leader Education is working with specialist SEMH schools and alternative provisions across Wakefield and surrounding areas to recruit resilient and committed support staff for full-time, long-term roles. The Role This is a full-time position (Monday–Friday) supporting secondary-aged pupils who require consistent behavioural and emotional support. You will: Provide 1:1 and small group behaviour support Build strong, professional relationships with pupils Support emotional regulation and de-escalation Implement behaviour support plans and EHCP strategies Help pupils engage with learning and routines Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and senior staff Pupils may present with SEMH needs, Autism (ASC), ADHD, attachment needs, or trauma-related behaviours. Ideal Candidate We are looking for individuals who are: Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient Confident managing challenging behaviour Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people Consistent, reliable, and proactive Available for full-time work Highly relevant backgrounds include: Behaviour mentoring Youth work Care or residential support Sports coaching Psychology graduates Alternative provision experience Security or intervention roles working with young people Previous school experience is beneficial but not essential — attitude and resilience are key.
