Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Stroke Physician to join our Stroke Department.
The role involves supporting inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and stroke rehabilitation, with opportunities for research, education, or leadership and management.
Responsibilities
* Provide comprehensive stroke service in partnership with other Stroke Physicians.
* Perform daily acute stroke ward rounds during the consultant‑of‑the‑week schedule (1 week in 7).
* Deliver the senior medical component of the hyper‑acute stroke thrombolysis service and triage for the TIA Rapid Assessment service during the stroke week.
* Cover the out‑of‑hours hyper‑acute stroke rota for assessment, thrombolysis, and remote advice (1 in 7); compensatory rest will be provided the following day after any significant midnight disturbance.
* Provide ongoing care of inpatients at Arrowe Park Hospital Step Down Stroke ward (approx. 8 patients, advice for 18 beds) and at Clatterbridge Hospital Stroke Rehabilitation Unit (average 5 beds).
* Conduct 1–2 rapid‑access TIA or stroke review clinics per week with access to same‑day Doppler, CT and MRI imaging (usual clinic template 3 new / 6 follow‑up).
