Overview
Portsmouth Water are delighted to have an opening for a temporary Finance Assistant to join the outstanding finance department for 6 months.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual to support our Accounts Payable and Receivable functions. This role is key to ensuring the smooth operation of our financial processes by accurately recording transactions in the company’s finance system and delivering high-quality service to both internal and external stakeholders.
What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
* Help maintain sales and purchase ledger and associated control accounts
* Review and prepare payment proposals via BACS and other e-banking software
* Input supplier and customer invoices, credit notes, payments and undertakes ledger maintenance
* Conduct credit control activities to ensure aged debt is managed effectively
* Validate invoices against purchase orders
* Ensure all trade invoices are issued correctly and on time
* Code financial transactions appropriately
* Support the wider Finance Team with information requests, reporting and audits
* Other ad-hoc tasks as requested by the Operational Finance Team Leader and Financial Accounts and Controls Manager
What do you need?
Essential
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
* Proven experience of working within a company accounts payable/receivable function
* Capable of processing high volume and potentially complex financial transactions
* An analytical person with high attention to detail
* Excellent communication skills
* A proactive self-starter, able to work on own initiative
* Good overall IT proficiency (Outlook, Word etc.)
* Organised and able to take ownership of tasks
Desirable
* Proficient in operating multiple accounting software and/or systems
* Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills
