Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Occupational Therapist to join the Children’s Occupational Therapy team in Dudley. The successful applicant will work as part of a supportive team committed to delivering high quality patient care. The role requires a passion for working with children, young people and their families, the ability to work in a team, excellent communication skills, creativity, and the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
* Manage a caseload of clients including those with complex needs, using evidence based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, providing a safe, effective and efficient service.
* Provide OT assessment, treatment and advice to clients on caseload, establish appropriate treatment programmes and discharge criteria.
* Plan and implement client‑centred individual and/or group interventions in collaboration with the client, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
* Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of the intervention.
* Demonstrate and apply an understanding of the effects of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to clients’ physical and social environments.
* Work with children aged 0-18 years in a variety of locations including home, school, nursery and clinics.
* Take responsibility for specific groups and clinics (e.g., football group, bike riding group, children’s autism assessment service, developmental coordination clinic, baby group).
* Have knowledge of and apply a range of paediatric treatment approaches (e.g., Sensory Integration, Bobath, perceptual/motor, cognitive approaches).
* Demonstrate comprehensive risk assessment skills and the ability to act appropriately to ensure safety when working as a lone practitioner.
Communication and Documentation
* Establish effective communication networks with clients, carers, and other health services, local authority and voluntary sector.
* Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team and contribute to decisions regarding client care programs.
* Promote awareness of the OT role within the team and with external organisations, negotiating priorities where appropriate.
* Maintain up-to-date written and electronic records and activity data in line with Professional and Trust standards and provide specialist OT reports relevant to clinical practice.
Education and Training
* Undertake supervision and appraisal of junior staff and students.
* Prepare and present tutorials for students and other staff.
* Review and reflect on practice through effective use of clinical supervision.
* Maintain a professional portfolio for CPD and participate in internal and external development opportunities.
Research and Service Development
* Critically evaluate current research, apply findings to practice and disseminate locally.
* Participate in local audit and research projects to broaden skills.
General
* Adhere to the RCOT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, HCPC standards and all relevant policies and procedures.
* Understand national guidelines and legislation relating to health and social care and their impact on service provision.
* Respect individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of clients and contribute to a service sensitive to these needs.
* Reflect on ethical issues and provide guidance to junior staff as necessary.
* Be responsible for maintaining stock and advising on resources to carry out the job.
Qualifications
* Essential: Degree in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration.
* Essential: Relevant post-graduate training and experience to manage a complex paediatric caseload.
* Essential: Significant post‑graduate experience in this clinical area; knowledge of current best practice in children’s OT and relevant legislation; good written communication skills; understanding of teamwork and MDT working; driver with UK licence.
* Desirable: Experience supervising others; Practice Educator qualification; training and facilitation skills; experience in research or audit.

* Contract details: Permanent, part-time; Band 6; salary £38,682 to £46,580 per year pro rata.
* Location: The Sunflower Centre, John Corbett Drive, Stourbridge, DY8 4HZ, with community-based duties across the Dudley borough.
