SEND Teaching Assistant – Secondary Provision

Salary: £89 - £95 per day

A nurturing and inclusive secondary school in the High Peak is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 11–16 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This mainstream school hosts a specialised provision base, supporting students with moderate learning difficulties (MLD), Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), sensory processing needs, and speech and language challenges.
Responsibilities Include:
* Providing consistent 1:1 or small-group support in lessons across English, Maths, and creative subjects
* Supporting personal development and independence alongside academic work
* Assisting students with emotional regulation, communication strategies, and sensory needs
* Using visual aids, simplified language, and structured routines to support learning
* Collaborating closely with SENCO, speech therapists, and external agencies
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
* Experience supporting students with additional needs, particularly at secondary level
* Confidence working with behaviours linked to ASC, ADHD, or anxiety
* Empathy, patience, and a positive, encouraging approach
* Familiarity with tools such as PECS, visual timetables, sensory breaks, or Makaton is highly beneficial

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
