Bid Manager
A vacancy has arisen to join Billington Structures as a Bid Manager.
We are looking for an aspiring Bid professional, looking for their next step upon the bid management career path.
A track record of working in the Bid Production environment, with a solid understanding of the Bid/Sales cycle, with strong communication and relationship management skills.
The Bid Manager holds a pivotal position within the commercial team, orchestrating the end-to-end process of tendering for new contracts and ensuring the company secures profitable and sustainable projects. This role functions at the intersection of business development, project management, and strategic planning.
The Bid Manager is responsible for leading cross-functional teams, crafting compelling proposals, and maintaining a focus on deadlines, compliance, and client requirements.
A successful Bid Manager combines technical understanding with commercial acumen, strong leadership skills, and an eye for detail.
The role demands the capacity to manage multiple priorities and build positive relationships both within the organisation and with external partners.
The Company
Billington Structures is one of the UK's leading structural steelwork specialists designing, manufacturing and constructing a wide portfolio of projects to a variety of clients, established for over 75 years with a professional and dynamic team.
Our experienced workforce can tackle projects from simple building frames to the most complex structures.
With plants in Barnsley and Bristol, we have the capability to process 50,000 tonnes of steel per annum, and are able to service clients at locations throughout the UK and Europe.
The Role
We are looking to recruit a Bid Manager responsible for the following…
* Bid Leadership and Management
* Take ownership of the entire bid process, from pre-qualification and initial enquiry through to submission and final negotiation.
* Establish and lead multidisciplinary bid teams, assigning roles and responsibilities to ensure deadlines and submission requirements are met.
* Schedule and chair bid strategy meetings, ensuring alignment between stakeholders and clarity of objectives.
* Build bid library infrastructure.
* Manage communications with clients (generally via eProcurement portals or email).
* Manage the bid sign-off and governance process for all bid opportunities.
* Manage the bid related GDPR and Data Privacy requirements.
* Take ownership of preparing core bid responses, developing bid collateral and support with writing technical responses.
* Prepare the final, collated bid response, including responsibility for ensuring compliance with client requirements and a high-quality submission for all bids.
* Undertake research to support the Sales Lead in developing a winning strategy.
* Be the main point of contact for involved team members, ensure team members and stakeholders are briefed on progress and development as required.
* Conduct post-bid reviews to evaluate outcomes and gather lessons learned.
* Drive process improvements for future bids based on feedback and industry best practices.
* Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, procurement methodologies, and competitor activities.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at a senior level and clients
* Brilliant organisational skills
* Self-starter, can do attitude, being comfortable with ambiguity
* Proficient at working in a fast-paced organisation and building a strong network
* Excellent IT skills, and specifically with Microsoft Office365
* Highly developed relationship management skills with the ability to bring people together to meet a common outcome
* A growth mindset with the willingness to learn and ability to teach and inspire others to learn.
Experience / Qualifications
To be considered a potential applicant you will have experience of.
* Working in a bidding environment with a strong understanding of the bidding process
* Helping to develop, and win, compelling client propositions
* Developing compelling and effective collateral for presentations, proposals and submissions.
* Proven track record of winning bids and managing complex, high-value tenders.
The following skills and experience are also desirable:
* Construction knowledge is ideal, but not a prerequisite
* Knowledge of effective presentation and marketing input.
