Benefits Officer

South Derbyshire District Council is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Benefits Officer to join our Benefits team. In this role you will provide a high‑quality, customer‑focused service, using your extensive knowledge of benefit legislation to assess Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction cases accurately and efficiently in accordance with government legislation, case law and local policy.
Key responsibilities include:
* Accurately assess Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction cases using relevant legislation and MRI revenue and benefits processing software.
* Ensure recovery action is taken where overpayments have been identified.
* Answer customer enquiries and give general advice to landlords, internal and external organisations.
Required qualifications and skills:
* Excellent knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction legislation.
* Good working knowledge of MRI Revenues and Benefits processing software.
