We are excited to invite applications for a Band 5 Staff Nurse position, offering an opportunity to rotate between both sites. This role is perfect for a compassionate and skilled nurse who is keen to broaden their clinical expertise while delivering high quality care to our patients. As part of a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in ensuring that patients receive the best possible care throughout their treatment journey within the cardiology Department

This position offers a diverse working environment, where you will have a chance to administer specialised treatments in the Cardiac Investigation Unit while engaging in various clinical and administrative duties within Cardiac Out Patient Department. You will be integral in providing safe and effective patient centred care in all areas. This is an excellent opportunity for a band 5 staff nurse to work closely with other professionals in a fast paced environment.

Main duties of the job

The post requires the applicant to be able to work under pressure, demonstrate excellent clinical nursing and communication skills, willingness to learn and develop your skills and strive to provide the optimum care for patients. This role provides variety in your day to day work ensuring that no two days are the same. Additionally, you will be supported in your professional development with opportunities for further training and career progression.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Professional Responsibilities

1. Is wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence.
2. Will act in accordance with Local, Hospital and Statutory Guidelines & Policies including Health and Safety initiatives.
3. Will be familiar with the Health and Safety at Works Act, and be aware of its implications and ensure that local unit and departmental policies are followed.
4. Will maintain a high standard of care and give courteous reception to all patients and visitors.
5. Will adopt a patient orientated approach to work
6. Will ensure that the Hospital’s policy is understood and carried out with regard to the care and custody of drugs/medications, especially with regard to those covered by the Control of Drugs Act.
7. Will be familiar with the Department fire, manual handling and policies and ensure that all nurses in the department are aware of the policies.
8. Will be fully conversant with the trust major incident plan, and ensure that all nurses in the Department understand the procedure.
9. Take all possible precautions to safeguard the welfare and safety of staff, service users, visitors and the public, by implementing all policies related to health, safety, security and risk.

Communication

10. Will be responsible for the provision and receipt of complex, sensitive or contentious information related to patients, patient care, relatives, staff and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
11. Provides highly specialised advice concerning the care or treatment of identified groups or categories of patients/clients
12. Communicate effectively and efficiently with all members of the multi-disciplinary team regarding patient care.
13. Will communicate with patients and relatives, making reports and liaising, as appropriate; with medical staff and other members of the care team and management.
14. Report to the Doctor/Sister/Charge Nurse and members of the multidisciplinary team on patient’s conditions, both verbally and in writing as necessary.
15. Liaise with inter-hospital departments/personnel
16. Attend and participate in Department meetings and help promote new ideas and methods and assist in their implementation.

Education & Professional Development

17. Act as a role model, giving guidance, counselling and support to unqualified staff and students.
18. Actively contribute to the teaching programme within the Department.
19. Act as mentor and introduce new staff members to their role within the team.
20. Act as preceptor for newly qualified members of staff.
21. Act as mentor/assessor to unqualified staff.
22. Assist in producing reports concerning any student nurse in the clinical setting as required by the university.
23. Take every opportunity to maintain and improve knowledge and competence, and take steps to keep up to date with clinical and nursing developments.

Skills

Essential criteria

27. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
28. Basic Computer Skills including ability to use Microsoft Word and EPIC
29. Able to work as an effective team member
30. Experience of administering intravenous drug therapy
31. Ability to manage difficult situations

Desirable criteria

32. Have phlebotomy and cannulation skills

Experience

Essential criteria

33. Supervision of junior staff and student nurses
34. Previous experience in other nursing fields

Desirable criteria

35. Experience in coordinating shifts
36. Awareness of Clinical Governance

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

37. To hold the appropriate level of Nursing Registration for speciality.
38. Evidence of continuing professional development
39. Teaching & assessing qualification

40. Immediate life support certificate
