Position Overview
We are looking for a Shift Plant Operator to manage and operate the Energy Recovery Facility in Staffordshire. The role involves operating a computerized control system, ensuring compliance with the Environmental Permit, and collaborating within the Operations team.
Responsibilities
* Operate and monitor the plant from the main control room using a computerised control system to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Energy Recovery Facility.
* Ensure day‑to‑day compliance with all aspects of the Environmental Permit.
* Report any non‑compliance or incident to the Shift Team Leader.
* Carry out routine plant inspections, adjustments and record plant data.
* Work effectively as part of the Operations team, supervising other team members and assisting the Shift Team Leader as required.
* Assist other company staff and contractors as required.
Qualifications
* Recognised Engineering apprenticeship or completion of a relevant operational training programme.
* Proven experience operating complex plant systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), within a continuous process environment.
* Background in shift‑based operations, ideally gained within steam generating or energy recovery facilities, with experience in waste incineration highly advantageous.
* Thorough understanding of current environmental legislation, health and safety regulations and best practices applicable to plant operations.
* Flexibility and commitment to work a continuous rotating shift pattern, including willingness to undertake voluntary overtime.
* Drive and capability to work towards and achieve a Level 3 qualification as part of ongoing professional development.
About the Facility
Our ERFs use world‑class technology to safely transform residual waste into energy for the National Grid. The facility in Staffordshire is designed to process 340,000 tonnes of waste per year that is not suitable for recycling or composting, producing 26 MW of energy to power 66,000 homes.
Location and Working Hours
Hours: 48 hours per week, 12‑hour shifts, 4 on 4 off on a rotating shift pattern that includes weekends and public holidays.
Location: Energy Recovery Facility at Four Ashes, Staffordshire.
