Ysgol Bryn Derw are seeking to appoint inspirational Level 2 Teaching Assistants for a unique opportunity to contribute to whole school and class-based initiatives in a growing school that received Excellent ratings in 4 out of 5 Estyn Inspection Areas in March 2020.

With the opening of an additional new site in Caerleon, Ysgol Bryn Derw, across 3 sites, supports the provision of education for up to 136 children aged from 3 years to 19 years who have been diagnosed with ASD, also present with additional complex needs such as severe learning difficulties and highly challenging behaviour, and require a specialised environment.

The school aims to provide the highest possible standards of education and support for all its pupils regardless of their level of educational need, and is equipped with a range of specialised facilities including a Rebound Therapy room, 6 sensory rooms, a Therapy room, 5 soft play rooms, 2 Independent Living Skills rooms and 4 allotment areas.

The Governing Body is looking to appoint Level 2 TAs, in this role you will be responsible for delivering learning under the direction of the class teacher and supporting the educational and personal needs of pupils.

You will have experience, as a Teaching Assistant, of working with pupils with ASD/complex needs and a knowledge of strategies to support communication and regulation for people with complex ASD and of supporting highly challenging behaviour.

All staff at Ysgol Bryn Derw receive a significant CPD offer, recent training has included Team Teach, Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism and PECS. You will be someone who is passionate and highly motivated to achieve the best outcomes for the young people at the school and have the vision to create an outstanding educational environment. Candidates will be expected to:

- Work under the guidance of teaching staff and or/members of the school leadership team

- To support individuals and groups of pupils to enable access to learning

- To assist the teacher with the management of pupils in the classroom and beyond

Level 2 posts are for up to 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (typically 8.45am-3.45pm Monday-Friday, term-time only). Candidates who wish to work for fewer days should specify their preferred working pattern in their application.
