Overview
Are you eager to take on higher level clinical responsibilities within an MSK team, providing support and expertise to a team of registered and unregistered MSK Physiotherapists? Join our innovative and supportive team at the Royal Devon, where your growth is our priority. We are looking for an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist to join the MSK service at North Devon District Hospital (Barnstaple) and South Molton Community Hospital. This position is ideal for someone with highly developed MSK skills who is ready to step into a Band 7 role or an experienced Band 7 clinician seeking a new challenge.
This post is based at North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple, with an MSK service also provided at South Molton Community Hospital. The team comprises support workers, band 5 and 6 posts, and band 7 clinicians.
Job responsibilities
You will be responsible for managing a complex caseload with advanced assessment, clinical decision making and management skills. You will support colleagues with complex cases, provide training and supervision, contribute to clinical audit and be engaged in research. You will work with the Professional Lead, Team Leads and other colleagues to drive quality improvement. Patients are referred from GPs, FCPs, Consultants, Orthopaedic Interface and other healthcare professionals. The team runs exercise classes across community sites and has access to a hydrotherapy pool at North Devon District Hospital.
You will be supported by a professional and operational lead to help you reach your potential. There is strong collaboration across teams in North Devon and the wider MSK service covering Exeter, North, Mid and East Devon. You will have opportunities to participate in special interest groups, project work, training sessions and potential involvement in research trials.
Training and development
Training and development opportunities are available, including clinical and leadership development courses. CPD is actively encouraged, with time to meet specialists as part of CPD. There is a well-established in-service training program coordinated by an education lead.
Innovation and wellbeing
Innovation is central to Allied Health Professionals at the Royal Devon. Initiatives include new projects, research trials, and the development of new roles, such as the Research and Innovation Lead role within AHPs. New team members receive tailored induction and access to a Buddy scheme, with regular 121s and appraisals. There are Trust-wide wellbeing events and activities.
Support and wellbeing: you will have a dedicated buddy, guidance from your team, and manager support through regular reviews. Working hours and flexible working options are available to support work-life balance.
Working hours and interview
Working Pattern: 30.2 hours per week with a flexible policy to discuss suitable options. Interview Date: Friday 21 November 2025 at North Devon District Hospital.
