Long Term Futures are recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 4 pupil with ASD and limited communication skills. This full-time role focuses on supporting the pupil to access and engage with the EYFS curriculum, promoting learning, communication, and independence throughout the day.
The successful candidate will need to offer patience, consistency, and a calm approach, using a structured and nurturing method. Experience in non-verbal communication strategies, Makaton, and PECS is essential to support the pupil effectively.
The Role:
Provide 1:1 support to a Year 4 pupil with ASD and limited communication
Deliver and adapt activities in line with the EYFS curriculum
Support communication using non-verbal strategies, Makaton, and PECS
Promote learning, participation, and independence in class activities
Recognise signs of frustration or disengagement and intervene calmly
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionalsThe Ideal Candidate:
Level 2/3 TA qualification (or equivalent)
Experience working with children with ASD and limited communication
Experience of the EYFS curriculum
Skilled in non-verbal communication strategies, Makaton, PECS, behaviour support, and structured learning
Calm, patient, and confident in a 1:1 setting
Flexible and responsive to individual needs
