About the role
This role sits within the Volunteering Team and plays a key part in improving the volunteering experience at Scouts, making it easier, more enjoyable and more inclusive for current and future volunteers. The team’s work supports the involvement of more volunteers so Scouts can reach more young people and communities, while ensuring volunteers feel valued and better reflect local communities and national demographics.
The role leads the Learning Design Team and works closely with the wider Volunteering Experience Team to deliver both short-term improvements and longer-term, transformational change to volunteering systems, processes, culture and behaviours. This includes shaping how volunteers are recruited and welcomed, how learning and induction are delivered, and how ongoing volunteering experiences are supported.
With responsibility for the quality and design of learning content, the role oversees the development of engaging, user-centred learning resources and frameworks, working collaboratively with volunteers, subject matter experts and teams across the organisation. There is significant opportunity to influence change at scale, improving the learning experience of over 140,000 volunteers, while contributing to a strong, inclusive learning culture and benefiting from a supportive, collaborative working environment with a strong commitment to learning, development and work–life balance.
