Job Overview

Working within the perioperative care department you will be supporting the surgical pre‑assessment and the perioperative medicine team by coordinating patients through their pre‑operative journey in the lead‑up to surgery, liaising with multi‑disciplinary teams in the process. The department is busy and will see approx. 10,000 patients a year with around 30,000 outpatient appointments. Our perioperative medicine team is renowned for its research and perioperative guidance.

Main Duties

* Book and outcoming appointments, scanning, and telephone calls.
* Support the training of new starters in the department.
* Prepare the MDT and liaise with multi‑disciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
* Line‑manage several perioperative care administrators; responsible for appraisals and sickness reviews.
* Serve as the first point of escalation to the administration staff and support with any complaints.
* Work flexibly with a combination of onsite and home working once fully trained; core working hours Monday‑Friday 8‑4.


Qualifications and Experience


Essential Criteria

* NVQ Level 4 or equivalent experience in administrative work procedures, including non‑routine elements.
* Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) standard, with a pass in English and Maths.
* Experience of administration in a customer‑focused environment; supervisory or office management experience.
* Experience dealing with non‑routine and complex problems, progress chasing, resource and staff allocation.
* Ability to compose correspondence from fragmented instructions.
* Experience delivering training sessions.


Desirable Criteria

* Previous experience working in an acute hospital setting.
* Competent in the use of ESR and Healthroster.
* Supervisory or office management experience.
