Role: Teacher of the Deaf (ToD)

The RoleWe are recruiting a qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join a school in Brighton on a full-time basis, starting as soon as possible.This setting provides a bilingual learning environment where British Sign Language (BSL) is used as the primary language of learning, as it is the first language for the majority of pupils. The successful candidate must therefore be able to teach confidently in this setting from day one.

Essential Requirements
1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ (QToD)
2. Mandatory qualification as a Teacher of the Deaf
3. Strong working knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL)
4. Experience teaching Deaf children or young people
5. Understanding of Deaf culture and bilingual education
Although BSL lessons are offered to staff, applicants must already have the skills and confidence to teach using BSL immediately.
