What is the job role?
Working alongside the Trading Standards and Senior Business Compliance Officer, you with be responsible for contributing to delivering a high-quality Business Compliance Service in a way that contributes to the achievement of the City Council’s vision and objectives for a growing and sustainable city.
The day-to-day requirement of this role involves engaging with businesses to educate and encourage proprietors to comply with the relevant legislation and take enforcement action where necessary. You will also be:
1. Investigating complaints;
2. Providing guidance and advice to businesses;
3. Conducting inspections;
4. Taking evidence and preparing prosecution files;
5. Interviewing alleged offenders under PACE.

This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as such, appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
A Business Compliance Enforcement Officer with experience in carrying out investigative work in an enforcement environment, with knowledge and an understanding of legislation and Codes of Practice (including PACE).
You will have the ability to build relationships with businesses and customers and have excellent standards of customer care and equal opportunities when delivering the business compliance function.
We are looking for someone with the ability to deal confidently with a wide range of people including businesses, the public, internal and external stakeholders, Elected Members, senior managers, and colleagues. You will need to have good written and oral communication skills and excellent organisational skills to enable workload prioritisation and meeting deadlines.
