Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Support Worker at Nelson Court Ward 2, you will be part of a multi-professional team providing high standards of care to our patients. You will maintain and promote patient independence and dignity to ensure each patient receives a positive experience.
1. Greet and receive patients, carers, and other visitors to the ward/department in a courteous and compassionate manner in line with
2. Trust values (includes receiving people via telephone and online). Act as a contact point when appropriate.
3. Orientate patients to the ward/department environment, providing appropriate information to them about facilities and services.
4. Attend ward meetings and contribute to discussions about improvement of patient care
5. Respond to informal complaints by patients, relatives, or carers during routine duties, in line with local policies and procedures and escalate concerns you are unable to resolve to an appropriate person.
6. Escalate immediately any concerns regarding patient care to a registered practitioner.
7. Maintain the patient’s comfort, dignity, and privacy at all times.
8. Provide patients with the fundamentals of personal care

Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
16. Understanding of patient-centered care and the role of the HCSW.

17. Experience in a health or social care setting
Skills and Attributes
Essential criteria
18. Demonstrable effective written and verbal communication skills.
19. Basic IT skills, able to use applications such as email on a computer or smart device (e.g. tablet).

20. Ability to communicate health-related information.
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
21. Numeracy/literacy skills to Functional Skills Level 1 (GCSE 2-3 / D-F / equivalent)
22. Willing to undertake further training.

23. Level 2/3 health care related qualification e.g., BTEC, NVQ, T-Level, Apprenticeship.
