Job Summary / Main Purpose
The principle role of the Occupational Health Service (OHS) is to provide advice to employees, managers and the Trust on issues relating to health at work and fitness for work. Physiotherapy is an integral part of this multidisciplinary team.
In line with the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists working in Occupational Health and Ergonomics (ACPOHE) National Guidelines, the focus of this post will be predominantly on clinical treatment, providing assessment and treatment of staff who are in work and making occasional fitness for work assessments and recommendations.
The post-holder will work under the management of more advanced Occupational Health physiotherapists, referring on and liaising closely with them on any more complex fitness for work cases. The post-holder may also have a role in health education and promotion on occasion.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
Clinical
1. To prioritise, assess and manage own patient caseload demonstrating specialised skills at a level appropriate to grade and ability to work without direct supervision
2. To practice in accordance with the standards of clinical practice and professional conduct and contribute to the promotion of evidence based practice
3. To assist and supervise where required, less experienced staff in the day to day management of their caseload
4. To contribute to the development and implementation of departmental clinical policies and practices including clinical governance and risk management
5. To maintain, develop and apply specialised knowledge and skills in area undertaking training as required and to be prepared to utilise these skills in teaching others
6. Where appropriate, to provide education; advice and support to patients/carers on home management
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent
Registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Minimum of 2 years post registration experience in adults / paediatrics, which must include 1 rotation in the specialist area of musculoskeletal physiotherapy or Occupational Health.
A range of CPD relevant to the specialist area as deemed appropriate to the post by the panel e.g. IST, reflective practice, case study, Journal Club, evidence of supervision, Band 5 passport.
Other (e.g. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Driving etc.)
Hold a current full driving licence valid in UK with access to a car or have access to an appropriate means of transport to undertake the duties of the post – this criterion will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits alternative arrangements
