We're seeking an enthusiastic and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Brighton that supports pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is part of a highly respected multi-academy trust known for its inclusive and nurturing approach.
About the Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils aged 14-16 who require additional emotional and behavioural support. You'll help them engage with learning, manage their emotions, and build the confidence they need to succeed. The SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide structure, stability, and encouragement throughout the school day.
This is a full-time position, five days per week, offering a rewarding opportunity to work with an inspiring group of students in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
Responsibilities
Support pupils with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom.
Assist the teacher in delivering lessons and personalised support plans.
Use positive behaviour management strategies to maintain a calm and safe learning space.
Encourage pupils' emotional wellbeing and promote resilience and independence.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure consistent support.
Contribute to the wider school community and uphold its caring ethos.The Ideal SEN Teaching Assistant Will Have
Experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role, ideally within an SEMH or special school setting.
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
A calm, empathetic, and understanding approach.
The ability to build positive relationships and motivate young learners.
