ROLE OF THE JOB
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Public Protection Service's Environmental Health (Pollution Control) Team and contribute to the delivery of statutory services that protect the environment and public health across Northumberland. We are seeking to recruit two experienced and highly motivated Environmental Health Officer's to take on the role of Senior Environmental Health Officer, working within our Environmental Protection and Noise and Nuisance Teams.
The Pollution Control Team consists of 14 officers delivering a wide range of statutory functions covering noise and statutory nuisance, air quality and smoke control, regulation of private water supplies, regulation and permitting of industrial sites, identification and remediation of contaminated land and consultee to planning and licensing departments.
What you will do
* Be responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of a small team of professional staff
* Ensure the effective coordination, allocation and monitoring of work to ensure effective service delivery
* Provide technical advice, guidance and on-going support to the team
* Lead on more complex, high-risk inspections, investigations and enforcement cases
About You
* Significant professional experience in Pollution Control or Noise and Nuisance and an in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation
* The ability to organise and prioritise a varied and demanding workload
* Excellent communication, negotiation and decision-making skills
* A collaborative approach, with a strong commitment to team working and staff development
Requirements of the Job
* Hold a relevant degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Health
* Registration as an Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or equivalent
* A full driving licence, valid in the UK
Previous management experience is desirable, although applications are welcomed from suitably qualified and experienced Environmental Health Officers.
The team is based in West Hartford Community Fire Station, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 3JP and sits within the Public Health, Inequalities & Stronger Communities Directorate. Hybrid working is well established.
