4 months contract with a Local Authority Job Summary: • We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Care Officer (Children’s Services) to provide high-quality care and support to children and young people in a residential setting. • The successful candidate will contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment where each child’s individual care plan is followed and their development is supported. • This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable children, with a strong understanding of safeguarding, emotional support, and collaborative working. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Provide day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people in line with their individual care plans. • Create a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment where young people feel valued and understood. • Administer personal care while maintaining the dignity and privacy of the young people in your care. • Support the emotional, social, and behavioural development of children by fostering positive relationships and appropriate boundaries. • Maintain accurate and detailed records, including care logs, medication administration, and incident reports. • Administer medication in accordance with policies and procedures outlined in the care plan. • Participate in appointments, outreach support, and other external activities as required. • Carry out key responsibilities that support the effective operation of the residential home within legislative and regulatory frameworks. • Use monitoring and administrative systems to help evaluate and improve service delivery. Skills/Experience: • Experience working with children or young people in a care, support, or safeguarding environment. • Understanding of child development, emotional wellbeing, and trauma-informed care. • Knowledge of relevant safeguarding and health & safety legislation. • Able to work effectively as part of a team and build strong, trusting relationships with children and colleagues. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm and empathetic approach. • Organisational skills to manage records, medication routines, and care procedures. • Flexible and adaptable to meet the varied and sometimes challenging needs of young people.
