Overview
Junior Cyber Security Engineer role at Wavenet. We’re looking for a proactive Junior Cyber Security Engineer to join our internal Cyber Security team in Solihull.
Responsibilities
* Help set up and maintain security measures across all internal IT systems.
* Regularly check for vulnerabilities, rank them by risk, and fix them promptly.
* Monitor alerts and escalate serious incidents when needed.
* Support investigations into suspicious network activity or security events.
* Collaborate with the IT team to resolve identified security issues.
* Contribute to creating and updating IT security policies and procedures.
* Ensure systems meet security standards and comply with regulations.
* Communicate and work effectively with the infrastructure team.
* Explain risks and solutions clearly to non-technical colleagues.
* Keep up with the latest security threats, tools, and industry trends.
Qualifications
* A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Cyber Security or related field (desirable, not essential).
* Experience with IT security platforms and tools such as EDR/XDR, vulnerability management, intrusion detection and prevention systems, security information and event management systems and firewalls.
* Basic understanding of networking protocols and infrastructure.
* Experience with vulnerability assessment and penetration testing.
* Analytical thinking, problem solving, clear communication and ethical integrity.
* Knowledge of IT security best practices and regulatory requirements.
Other qualifications
* Professional IT security certifications such as (ISC)² Entry-Level Cyber Security Certification, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft SC-900 or GIAC Security Essentials, or Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) are preferred but not required.
* Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
* A commitment to professional development and staying up to date with the latest IT security trends and threats.
