Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Medicine (ED12768) - Bath, BA2 7AYThe Department for Health at the University of Bath invites applications for the position of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Sport and Exercise Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to our research strength in Sport and Exercise Medicine, joining our Centre for Health, and Injury & Illness Prevention in Sport, and the UK Collaborating Centre on Injury and Illness Prevention in Sport (UKCCIIS), which is an IOC Research Centre of Excellence. These bring together staff at all career stages and postgraduate students to develop collaborative research and deliver internationally leading research outputs, impact, and knowledge exchange. About the roleResearchThe successful candidate’s research will be in an area aligned to injury and illness prevention: for example, injury surveillance, epidemiology/medical statistics, injury mechanisms or implementation science. They will work with colleagues, students and partners to design and deliver research projects, publish papers and other research outputs. They will apply for research funding to support their ideas. They will find ways of making their research available to society, for example, by working with industry, developing spin-outs, collaborating with charities, influencing policymakers, or delivering talks and demonstrations to inform and excite wider audiences. In the Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2021) we were rated 6th in the country for Sports & Exercise Sciences, Leisure & Tourism, with 98% of our outputs considered either world leading or internationally excellent (i.e. 3-4*). TeachingThe successful candidate will design and deliver teaching materials for lectures, seminars, tutorials, and labs (as appropriate), design and mark assessments and provide feedback to students. They will be educating and inspiring some of the brightest students in the country, delivering an engaging experience and a supportive programme.The successful candidate will join a team of lecturers delivering a suite of units across our Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught degrees. They will teach in the area of Sport and Exercise Medicine across our UG courses in Sport and Exercise Science and Health and Exercise Science and our MSc courses in Sport and Exercise Medicine, Sports Physiotherapy and Football Medicine (in association with FIFA). They will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: injury prevention as it applies to sport, health and exercise science and medicine; the principles and processes of research methods and design; epidemiology and medical statistics. We value contributions to the academic community, and therefore the successful candidate will be asked to take on other roles in teaching support, such as academic advising, UG and PGT dissertation supervision, course development and other administrative activities as they arise. For instance, this might be supporting student placements, ethics processes, recruitment and admissions or take a part in the running of a research centre. This course will give you skills and support to help you in the teaching aspects of the role. After completing the course, you will become a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.About youOur ideal candidate will hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, along with a UG degree or equivalent experience. Membership in a professional body and a higher education teaching qualification (e.g., PGCert, FHEA) are desirable. You should demonstrate substantial research experience and an emerging track record in your field.A deep conceptual understanding of your subject, alongside experience teaching at UG/PG levels, and ability and enthusiasm to create an engaging experience for our excellent students are essential. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to form positive collaborations are required.A commitment to excellence in research and teaching, student experience, and ethical professional conduct is essential.
