Overview
Interview Date: Week beginning 13th October 2025. Central Bedfordshire Council is seeking a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) or an experienced teacher willing to train to be a Teacher of the Deaf to manage Central Bedfordshire's Hearing Inclusion Provision based at Harlington Upper School or Parkfields Middle School. The role involves managing one of the council's Hearing Inclusion Provisions, developing an outstanding provision for d/Deaf children, and ensuring they have every opportunity to succeed. You will join an experienced team of QToDs and Educational Communicators and be responsible for day-to-day oversight and management of the provision, delivering support on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to meet the needs of d/Deaf students. You will also deliver CPD to school staff and provision staff as appropriate.
You will be expected to demonstrate how you meet the key accountabilities and competencies in the Recruitment Pack.

Responsibilities
* Manage one of the council’s Hearing Inclusion Provisions, providing day-to-day oversight and line management where applicable.
* Deliver one-to-one or small group support to meet the needs of d/Deaf students.
* Deliver CPD to school staff and provision staff as appropriate.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, external agencies and parents/carers to ensure deaf students' needs are understood and met.
Qualifications and Skills
* Qualified Teacher of the Deaf (QToD) or qualified teacher willing to train via a two-year on-the-job postgraduate distance learning course funded by the authority.
* Experience as a teacher, with at least two years in teaching is desirable for the role; previous team management experience is highly desirable.
* British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 qualification or above is desirable; BSL Level 1 would be required prior to achieving QToD status.
* Ability to use initiative, think on your feet, strong self-organisation and time-management skills.
* Compassionate, patient, with a passion for continual development and improving practice; confident in working with teachers, support staff, external agencies and families.
What We Offer
* Salary: Teacher MPS/UPS £31,650 - £49,084 plus 1 or 2 SEN Allowances depending on QToD qualification.
* Hours: 0.8 FTE (4 days).
* Location: Harlington Upper School or Parkfields Middle School as needed (minimum four attendances per week).
* Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent.
