Hays Senior Finance are pleased to be working with an esteemed private school located in the Telford area. The school is looking to appoint a new finance officer on a temp-to-perm basis. This could be an ideal role for anyone who is looking to get back into a financial role within the education sector.
Your new role
Billing, Fees & Ie Management
1. Maintain and accurately update the monthly Billing and Fees Spreadsheet.
2. Review and set annual fees in line with operational costs, Living Wage adjustments, and market benchmarks.
3. Calculate fees for new placements and prepare corresponding budgets
4. Produce and submit placement costings for Placement Statements.
5. Manage billing queries and respond to information requests from placing authorities.
6. Process and monitor placement-related expenses and allowances.
7. Manageplex or challenging referrals and agree fee‑related inputs with key stakeholders.
8. Verify and approve monthly salary information.
9. Provide annual financial statements to local authorities in accordance with Independent School Standards.
10. Assist with the recovery of outstanding debts.
Management Accounts & Budgeting
11. Produce monthly Management Accounts, including Profit & Loss reporting.
12. Prepare and maintain the annual budget, covering:Profit & Loss projectionsCash flow forecasting
13. Monitor budget performance and report variances to the Managing Director.
14. Contribute financial data and projections to the 2025–2030 Business Plan.
15. Present quarterly financial reports to the Board.
Accounting & Year-End
16. Prepare year‑end accounts for external audit and liaise withpany Auditors and Accountants.
17. Oversee year‑end processes, including provisions.
18. Support the appointment and ongoing relationship with external auditors and accountants.
19. Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with UK GAAP and relevant accounting standards.
VAT, Corporation Tax & HMRCpliance
20. Prepare and submit VAT returns within required deadlines.
21. Manage partial VAT exemption in line withpany policy.
22. Respond to HMRC queries and support any investigations.
23. Ensurepliance with Corporation Tax requirements and liaise with appointed accountants.
24. Collaborate withpany Accountants and Auditors on all tax‑related matters.
25. Ensure timely and accuratepletion of allpanies House filings.
26. Submit ONS (Office for National Statistics) returns as required.
27. Maintain statutory registers and ensurepliance with thepanies Act 2006.
28. Supporternance activities, includingpany Structure and Memorandum & Articles of Association.
Tribunal & Placement Financial Preparation
29. Prepare detailed financial evidence and costings for SEND Tribunal cases.
30. Work with the leadership team to ensure financial data supports placement decisions.
31. Provide financial analysis to supportplex or contested referrals.
What you'll need to succeed
This position will suit someone who has had finance experience within an educational establishment. You will ideally have an enhanced DBS or already be on the update service list. The school are happy to review applicants who are QBE, and have a proven record of carrying out the above duties. You will be a goodmunicator and be able to work towards deadlines. You will be supporting the effective delivery of financial processes, reporting, andpliance across the organisation, ensuring attention to detail and accuracy.
