The appointee will have a principle interest in Cataract. Participation on the on call rota and in the eye casualty department is essential.

Responsibilities
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients with a wide variety of ophthalmic conditions
* Share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of ophthalmology patients.
* Teaching and training of junior staff, medical students, postgraduates and other healthcare personnel.
* Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
* Responsible for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education/professional and service development (CME/CPD).
* Maintain your continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate; attend annual appraisal and mandatory training as stipulated.
* Undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specific Induction and competency Programme(s) appropriate to the role.
* Provide support in the emergency eye department and be a point of escalation when senior consultant advice is required.
* Provide Consultant Ophthalmology services at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust, including outpatient clinics and procedure lists.
* Deliver services across four sites: York, Scarborough, Malton and Bridlington.
* Work flexibly and cooperatively with other consultant Ophthalmologists to maximise utilisation of outpatient procedure lists and clinics.
* Provide emergency Ophthalmology services to patients on the on call rota.
* Ensure good standards of practice and care as described in GMC Guidance; report bad practice.
* Ensure clinical practice is effective, efficient and appropriately monitored; participate in audit.
* Provide continuing responsibility for the care of patients and proper organisation and functioning of clinical practice.
* Work closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies to deliver departmental objectives.
* Report critical clinical incidents in a timely manner.
* Participate in yearly appraisal and job planning process.
* Undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as determined by the Trust.
* Support allied health professionals in their development and teaching; support the Nursing team in development and training.
