Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Consultant to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Department with an interest in Oncology/Head and Neck Cancer. The unit provides Oral & Maxillofacial service, Oral Surgery, and Restorative dentistry. It also houses a Day Case GA / LA operative theatre. The department has access to a Cone Beam CT scanner. There is scope within the Trust to further develop the services provided.
The department places a strong emphasis on the training of DCTs and SAS as well as providing teaching and education to regional DCTs and local General Dental Practitioners. Applicants are expected to have completed specialist training and have evidence of good outcomes in all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Responsibilities
* Provide a full range of Maxillofacial Surgery.
* Develop subspecialist interests including TMJ, orbital trauma and surgical dermatology as appropriate.
* Work as a member of multidisciplinary teams locally and regionally to deliver high quality care.
* Support all levels of trainees in managing outpatients, inpatients and emergencies.
* Integrate into an on-call rota providing cover for emergency work locally and for other units in the region as necessary.
* May be required to work off site; use of a vehicle or other form of transport may be necessary.
Facilities and Roles
* The department offers an Oral and Maxillofacial service, Oral Surgery and Restorative dentistry with access to a Day Case GA / LA operative theatre and a Cone Beam CT scanner.
* There is scope within the Trust to further develop the services provided.
* The Trust is partnering with the local Major Trauma Centre at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) to deliver OMFS out of hours cover at weekends, and a centralised oncology service is provided for the region from CUH.
Location and Duties
* The post holder will be integrated into local and regional teams and may be required to work at different sites as part of the role.
* The post holder will be expected to manage outpatients, inpatients and emergencies as part of normal duties.
Qualifications and Person Specification
* Completed specialist training with evidence of good outcomes in all aspects of OMFS.
* Willingness to develop subspecialist interests and contribute to teaching and education for trainees and local practitioners.
