Senior Stress Engineer – Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit, Assystem, Blackburn, England, United Kingdom. Join a team expanding our Stress capability to deliver critical nuclear sector projects. Apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess nuclear components, ensure compliance with design codes such as ASME III and RCC-M, and contribute to project planning, delivery, and reporting. This role offers opportunities to work with client teams and from Assystem offices, providing varied project experiences.
Responsibilities
* Your mission: Learn and develop skills across a range of projects and customers with support from an experienced team.
* Technical aptitude: Plan, undertake and report simulation and assessment projects using tools such as ANSYS or Abaqus FEA, and perform calculations in MathCAD.
* Digital first: Utilize engineering and data management software (document control, PLM, MS Office, TEAMS, etc.).
* Collaborative: Work as part of a team and independently when appropriate, communicating with stakeholders.
* Delivery focused: Meet milestones and deliver high-quality outputs within time and budget.
* Commercially aware: Understand project delivery context including milestones, requirements compliance, change and technical risk.
* Organised & Communicative: Plan effectively and communicate clearly.

Qualifications
Essential:
* Nuclear industry experience (defence) preferred, but transferable skills from other disciplines accepted.
* Demonstrable expertise in fatigue, fracture, thermal, and structural stress assessments using finite element analysis.
* Finite Element analysis in ABAQUS (explicit/implicit).
* ABAQUS/CAE or equivalent (desirable).
* Code assessment to ASME B&PVC and RCC-M; RCC-M a plus.
* Knowledge of structural integrity & defect tolerance assessments.
* Python scripting in ABAQUS environment desirable.
* CRACKEN or alternative fracture assessment experience highly desirable.
* Fatigue crack growth & initiation experience desirable.
* Familiar with gated review process.
Desirable / Preferred:
* Previous experience in similar roles in nuclear or fusion industry.
* 3D modelling in CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, Catia, SolidWorks).
* Experience of CFD or dynamic modelling (LS-Dyna, Radioss).
