Join Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at St John’s Green Primary School, Colchester, and support your local community.
Assist with school crossings in the morning and afternoon to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing to and from school and surrounding areas.
We seek a punctual, reliable, approachable individual who enjoys engaging with the public.
This role involves approximately 7.5 hours per week, with holiday pay included. You will work during the 39 weeks of the academic year, for about 45 minutes in the morning (08:00 - 09:00) and 45 minutes in the afternoon (14:45 - 15:45), depending on site requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.
Responsibilities include:
* Considering the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility-impaired pedestrians at the crossing.
* Maintaining contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
* Assessing risks at the crossing site, reporting issues and defects to the supervisor.
* Assisting in preparing reports on accidents and incidents at the crossing.
* Maintaining the condition of uniform and equipment, requesting replacements when needed.
* Giving clear signals to drivers to stop traffic and ensuring pedestrians are safe to cross.
