We’re recruiting for a Finance Manager to join a busy team based on the outskirts of Ware on a contract basis to cover maternity leave.
Finance Manager (12-18 Month FTC)
Location: Ware (remote location – own car required)
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Finance Manager to join our client’s busy Finance team on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This is a varied role combining responsibility for running the monthly payroll with managing the purchase ledger and supporting wider finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the end-to-end monthly payroll, including payments, pension reconciliations, and all statutory reporting
2. Oversee payroll year-end processes, including audit preparation
3. Maintain the purchase ledger: processing invoices, obtaining approvals, preparing weekly payment runs, and setting up new suppliers
4. Process staff expenses and credit card transactions, ensuring accurate postings and administration
5. Generate and post VAT invoices for additional revenue streams
6. Manage petty cash and reconciliations
7. Assist the Financial Controller with VAT return preparation and submission
8. Create and process period-end journals, including prepayments and accruals
9. Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations
10. Maintain the fixed asset register, including write-offs
11. Support the Financial Controller with ad hoc projects to improve systems and processes
12. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards
13. Undertake additional finance-related tasks as required
About You
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can confidently manage both payroll and day to day financial activities. The ideal candidate will:
14. Have proven experience managing payroll
15. Possess working knowledge of VAT
16. Have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interrogate financial information
17. Demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
18. Be IT proficient with strong Excel skills
19. Be able to prioritise effectively and manage deadlines
20. Be hands-on and comfortable working in the detail as well as supporting wider finance initiatives
