Job Summary:
The Kitchen Porter (KP) plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth running of the kitchen by maintaining cleanliness, washing dishes, assisting chefs with basic food preparation, and supporting the overall kitchen team. This role is ideal for someone who works efficiently, is reliable, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning & Hygiene:
* Wash and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.
* Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, including floors, surfaces, and equipment.
* Dispose of waste and recycling in line with health and safety regulations.
* Ensure hygiene standards are consistently met in accordance with local regulations.
Food Preparation Support:
* Assist chefs with basic food prep (washing, peeling, chopping vegetables).
* Restock ingredients and supplies as directed by the kitchen team.
* Support in portioning and organizing ingredients for service.
Equipment Handling:
* Operate dishwashers and other kitchen cleaning equipment safely.
* Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean and properly stored after use.
Team Support:
* Help kitchen staff during busy periods.
* Report any equipment faults or maintenance issues to supervisors.
* Follow instructions from senior kitchen staff promptly and efficiently.
Requirements:
* Previous experience in a kitchen or cleaning role is an advantage but not essential.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
* Basic understanding of hygiene and food safety practices.
* Physically fit, able to stand for long periods and lift heavy items.
* Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
* Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays if required.
