Our client who has an abundance of site fitting work on, now needs to appoint a strong site fitter to assist out in the field, all of the work is set around steel and glass fabrication.
The Site Fitter is responsible for installing fabricated metalwork and structural components on construction sites, commercial premises, or industrial facilities. The role requires strong practical skills, the ability to interpret technical drawings, and a commitment to safe, accurate installation work. Site Fitters work closely with fabricators, welders, site managers, and clients to ensure all installations are completed to a high standard.
Installation & Assembly
• Install fabricated metal components such as staircases, handrails, balustrades, gates, platforms, steel frames, and bespoke assemblies.
• Carry out on-site fitting, bolting, drilling, grinding, and minor adjustments to ensure correct alignment and fit.
• Perform on-site welding or tack welding (if qualified/required).
• Use lifting equipment, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively.
Technical Interpretation
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings, site plans, and installation instructions.
• Measure, mark out, and verify dimensions on-site to ensure accuracy.
• Identify and resolve fitting issues, reporting any discrepancies to supervisors or engineers.
Site Coordination
• Work alongside site managers, contractors, and other trades to coordinate installation activities.
• Communicate progress, issues, and requirements clearly.
• Complete job sheets, installation reports, and sign-off documentation.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Proven experience as a Site Fitter, Steel Erector, or similar role.
• Strong understanding of metal fabrication and installation techniques.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances.
• Competent using drills, grinders, impact tools, levels, and lifting equipment.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
UK driving licence (commonly required for site-based roles).
Desirable Skills
• CSCS card or equivalent site safety certification.
• IPAF, PASMA, or forklift/telehandler qualifications.
• Experience with structural steel installation.
• Ability to carry out basic on-site welding (MIG/TIG/Stick).
• Knowledge of fixings, anchors, and structural connections.
