Job Title: Modification Technician
We are currently recruiting for a dedicated Modification Technician to join our train facility in Newton Aycliffe. In this role, the successful candidate will undertake corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing, and repair of rolling stock assets.
Responsibilities include:
1. Perform scheduled modification and maintenance activities on the rolling stock according to instructions.
2. Service and prepare the rolling stock.
3. Drive within depot premises following operating procedures.
4. Participate in continuous improvement activities for modification and maintenance processes.
5. Support the delivery of new trains and participate in acceptance processes.
6. Complete exam tasks timely and perform fault rectification or repairs as needed.
7. Adhere to health and safety procedures.
8. Attend testing locations and stations for maintenance tasks.
9. Travel and stay overnight if required.
10. Support the team leaders and managers in production delivery.
11. Record work activities and stock usage in the maintenance system.
12. Work in shifts to meet service requirements.
13. Assist with other relevant responsibilities as needed.
About you:
Essential:
1. Experience in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot environment.
2. Strong safety awareness in railway engineering.
3. Experience supporting at stabling outstations or main line stations.
4. Proficiency in fault finding and repair using diagnostics tools.
5. Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics.
6. Experience with maintenance management systems and trend analysis.
7. Experience with modifications and campaigns on modern rolling stock.
Qualifications:
1. Served apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
2. Engineering NVQ Level 3.

Desirable:
1. Ability to investigate electrical and mechanical faults and write reports.
2. Intermediate IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
3. Train driving, fire warden, first aider certifications.
4. Experience with powered plant and tools.
5. Train driving license and assessment.
6. Knowledge of depot protection, working at height, COSHH, manual handling, and depot isolation procedures.
7. Network Rail Sentinel PTS certification.
