The Opportunity
This full-time paid placement is based at a nuclear power station in Suffolk. You’ll work within the Commercial Department, helping to improve operational performance, support procurement strategies, manage key business projects and enhance safety across site functions.
You’ll apply your academic understanding to live business challenges and learn how commercial, operational and engineering teams collaborate in a highly regulated environment. With support from experienced colleagues, you’ll build skills in communication, stakeholder management, performance monitoring and data analysis.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll be part of a site-based commercial team with exposure to a variety of high-value projects. Past students in this department have:
* Contributed to site-wide operational and performance reviews
* Supported safety and efficiency initiatives
* Analysed cost, performance and procurement data
* Delivered presentations and insights to internal stakeholders
* Helped improve condition monitoring and contractor planning
* Supported business improvement projects across different departments
You’ll gain confidence working across cross-functional teams and will have the chance to make a measurable contribution to ongoing site initiatives.
Key Criteria / Must‑Haves
To be eligible, candidates must:
* Be on track to achieve (or already hold) a 2:2 degree or above in one of the following areas:
* Business
* Economics
* Engineering
* Mathematics
* Or another analytical discipline
* Have a genuine interest in the commercial or operational side of large-scale infrastructure or utilities
* Be confident with data analysis, problem solving and report writing
* Be comfortable working in a regulated, safety-first environment
* Hold the legal right to work in the UK from the start of the placement
Desirable qualities:
* Knowledge of commercial strategy, procurement or business planning
* Experience using Excel or data visualisation tools
* Effective communicator with strong attention to detail
