Job overview
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, participate in the development and maintenance of high quality patient care through involvement in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
This role requires an individual with the proven ability to provide patient care services to set standards within clinical areas. There is a need for awareness of both security and patient/client issues.
Main duties of the job
Participate as a member of the nursing team in delivery, monitoring and evaluating individual evidence based care/treatment plans, Health Promotion initiatives, Risk Issues, and collaborate with other disciplines as required. Maintaining patient/client confidentiality.
* Ward representative and link at organisational improvement forums.
* Demonstrate an understanding of and support the principles of advocacy.
* Assist in maintaining general and specific patient observations under the supervision of registered nursing staff. Maintaining strict confidentiality of patient information at all times.
* Support registered nursing staff recording all relevant information countersigned by a registered nurse.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities in relation to patient’s property and valuables, respecting cultural values.
* Always act in a manner as to promote and safeguard the interests and wellbeing of patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Actively promote a responsible caring attitude at all times, treating all patients with dignity and respect including awareness and understanding of issues surrounding equality and diversity.
* To co facilitate therapeutic and ward‑based groups and diversional activities as directed by senior nurse / Nurse in charge / lead facilitators.
* Participate in the escorting of patients as per hospital procedure.
* To carry out procedural and physical security checks as per local procedure and to report relevant findings to nurse in charge.
* Be involved in the induction support and supervision of Healthcare Support Workers.
* Providing, documenting, and receiving information which requires tact or persuasive skills.
* Maintain patient confidentiality, professional boundaries and actively promote positive role modelling.
* Ensure own documentation is clear and accurate in content and has been countersigned by registered nursing staff.
* Refer questions from patients and visitors to the nurse in charge on specific issues relating to patients’ conditions of treatment.
* To participate in appropriate training courses or updates in accordance with mandatory requirements and/or individual Personal Development plans.
* Attendance as required on designated courses.
* Personal Development targets are met

Physical Health
* Physically able to undertake training in physical interventions.
* Has the physical ability to undertake the full range of duties as required.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in care or able to demonstrate possession of equivalent experience / training.
Experience
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting.
* Experience of working with patients who display challenging behaviour.
* Previous experience of working in a Forensic environment.
Training
* Evidence of training and experience in delivery of therapeutic and/or diversional interventions.
Knowledge
* Understanding of Arnold Lodge and mental health conditions.
Skills
* Ability to work as part of a team and induct / supervise junior staff.
* Diplomatic, caring & sympathetic. Ability to be flexible.
* Good observation skills with the ability to verbalise observations of incidents, events, and behaviours, in an accurate and timely manner.
* Committed to user involvement.
* Positive attitude and evidence of ability to encourage interests in patients.
Contractual Requirements
* Shift Working. 24-hour rotational systems.
* Ability to work to meet the needs of the service.
* Experience of shift working patterns.
