Healthcare Support Worker - UHD

There is an opportunity to join our Adult Inpatient wards across surgery and Medicine within University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) as a HCSW, full time or part time.
The role of the HCSW is to demonstrate care, compassion and UHD Values. The post holder will support the trained nurse and other healthcare professionals in the delivery of the highest standard of patient centred care.
This role is a Band 3 and a recognised Care Certificate is required. If candidates do not hold one they will start as a Band 2 and be support in achieving the care certificate and moving to the Band 3 within their probationary period.
We are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week therefore the role will require candidates to be fully flexible across all shift patterns which include nights, weekdays, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job
Assist the registered Nurse to deliver quality, safe care with privacy and dignity.
Delegated duties will include but are not limited to, Promoting and encouraging independence, assisting patients with personal hygiene needs, supporting with toileting, assisting with eating and drinking, assisting with mobilisation, providing enhanced therapeutic care and supporting patients and family during end of life.

Job responsibilities
To work as an effective member of the team under the supervision and direction of a registered health care professional, providing dignified, compassionate and safe care for patients and ensuring high standards of documentation are maintained.
To undertake all duties listed however these duties will vary from speciality to speciality in some cases this could include working with children and young people right through to older people.
To undertake the Enhanced Therapeutic Observation Care such as 1:1 arms length or cohort/Baywatch requirements.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Completion of a Care certificate
* Short course to undertake patient and clinical care duties.
Experience
* Previous experience of working within a care environment
* Experience of working with the public
* Previous experience of working with patients that require Enhanced Care i.e. challenging behaviour, high falls risk, Dementia and Delirium
Skills
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
* Ability to work part of a team.
* Venepuncture and cannulation.
Knowledge
* An understanding around basic patient care
