Head of Department - Health & Social Care and Child Development
Required September 2026
Full time, permanent role MPS/UPS + TLR (negotiable on experience of candidate)

We are seeking an inspirational and dynamic Head of Department for Health & Social Care and Child Development to include a wider school responsibility based on the experience of the candidate. You will be leading a talented and hard-working department with a mutually supportive ethos, and an ideal mixture of youth and experience.

Our school is highly successful and oversubscribed, with EBacc entries well above the national average, and successful results for students, whether they are disadvantaged, SEND or Gifted and Talented. We value the development of the whole child, and encourage students to take part in a wide range of co-curricular activities. Outdoor education is very popular with our students, and we usually have a large proportion of Y10 participating in the Bronze DofE award, with many progressing to the higher awards. We also run a range of trips each year, both abroad and in the UK, culminating in a popular 'activities week' at the end of the year.

Successful applicants will:

1. Have a deep passion and enthusiasm for their subject
2. Be committed to exceptional standards of teaching and learning
3. Be able to motivate, challenge and inspire students to achieve their best
4. Establish and develop excellent relationships with students and staff
5. Be tenacious in their commitment to maintaining outstanding results in the department
6. Contribute to our core vision and values

We can offer you:

7. A school with outstanding behaviour and safety for all
8. Excellent facilities for teaching and learning
9. Leading edge professional development to support and improve your leadership skills in preparation for further promotion
10. An emphasis on core traditional values of good manners, engagement and high academic achievement
11. An emphasis on Duke of Edinburgh, Ten Tors and other outdoor education for all
12. All staff in the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership have the chance to share best practice across age ranges, share resources and work in one or more school.

Norton Hill serves Midsomer Norton, Radstock and the surrounding rural area where there is an abundance of attractive and affordable housing. The school is on the edge of the Mendips but close to Bath, Bristol, Frome and Wells.

Closing Date: Tuesday 19th May 9am
Interviews to be confirmed
