2*. Job Summary*
· Firsthand coordination of radioactive waste through site ensuring company procedures are adhered to.
· Undertake radiological protection monitoring, compliance surveys and conduct environmental cleaning activities to ensure operational doses are maintained ALARP.
· Ensure data is accurately recorded, verified, and issued in line with internal and external reporting obligations supporting operational and commercial activities.
· Support development and implementation of improved processes and treatment methods to optimise safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency.
· Be responsible for the correct use, testing of, monitoring of radiological protection equipment and for the radiological protection of the operations team.
3*. Key Responsibilities*
· Proactively support and embed a generative safety culture whilst ensuring site compliance with appropriate regulations and procedures.
· Maintain a strong operational presence providing support and encouragement by being hands on and leading by example, reinforce daily adherence to site rules, regulatory mandates, and disciplined working practices.
· Undertake and support radiological protection monitoring duties – completing daily, weekly, and monthly checks across site.
· Manage the servicing of controlled area change rooms.
· Undertake radiological compliance surveys.
· Maintain and manage site stock to ensure compliance with the site's permit and other regulatory requirements.
· Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy when following instructions, recording and interpreting data with ability to implement actions based on results.
· Perform and coordinate environmental cleaning and contamination control activities to ensure radiation doses are maintained ALARP.
· Collect samples from routine air monitoring and assess using scintillation counting instruments.
· Assist in coordinating plant and radiological equipment maintenance (reactive and preventative) including inspections to ensure safety and compliance of all site activities.
· Comply with regulatory and organisational requirements.
· Be responsible for the correct use, testing of, monitoring of radiological protection equipment and for the radiological protection of the operations team.
· Support and lead continuous improvement programmes throughout site with primary focus on radiological treatment processes and radiological protection.
· Maintain continuous professional development.
· Any other reasonable duties as and when required.
4. Critical Qualifications
· NVQ Level 3 Health Physics (essential)
· Experience in the field of radiological protection.
· Proven ability to use radiation detection and monitoring instrumentation and equipment.
· IOSH Working Safely preferred.
· HNC or above in Engineering Discipline or Chemistry (desirable)
· Numeracy and literacy to a high standard
· Computer skills – in using Microsoft Office 365 suite.
· A good command of the English language
5. Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Experience in a nuclear facility or a related field
* Ability to use, coordinate maintenance of radiological instrumentation and equipment.
* Target and data driven decision making.
* Experience of the waste industry would be advantageous.
* Strong technical knowledge with proven initiative-taking critical thinking skills and ability to give informed instruction to resolution.
* Good and practical knowledge of processing compliance and enforcement in a nuclear or waste industry.
* "Can do" attitude, able to buy into the need for change and a continuous improvement ethos.
