FLSA STATUS/SHIFT: Nonexempt/First Shift

SUMMARY: The Educational Support Professional works with and supports individual students as well as
small groups of students, under the direction of the classroom teacher.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides assistance and carries out the instructions of the classroom teacher to promote a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
2. Monitors individual and/or groups of students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments ( lunch, bus arrivals/dismissals, playground, classrooms, restrooms, field trips, assemblies, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
3. Tutors students in a variety of subjects.
4. Assists teacher with class preparation.
5. Prepares individual materials to be sent home as instructed by the teacher.
6. Models and maintains discipline procedures and rules established by the teacher.
7. Maintains confidentiality of student information.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in staff development sessions for educational support personnel.
2. Completes other duties as assigned.

SKILLS:
1. Knowledge of business English, spelling, and mathematics.
2. General working knowledge of standard office equipment.
3. Spanish/English bilingual fluency preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to move objects weighing up to pounds about the office on a constant basis; ability to constantly position self throughout the work day at heights up to 5 feet using varied methods; ability to remain in a stationary position for periods of up to 3 hours; ability to communicate with and exchange accurate information with students, coworkers, parents, and the public.

Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS:
1 Education:
a. Required – High school diploma and Associates degree or semester hours from an accredited higher education institution in a related field.
b. Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
2. Experience:
a. Required – Successful completion of blood borne pathogen training within the first year of employment.
b. Preferred – Two years of current work experience with school-aged children in a school environment, as well as successful completion of blood borne pathogen training within the first year of employment.
