Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in Acute Medicine (Band 7) 12 months fixed term Maternity Cover

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Lead Physiotherapist specialising in or with a keen interest in Acute Medicine to join our Therapy service. This 12 months fixed-term opportunity to cover maternity leave may also be considered for a secondment. You will work jointly alongside the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist and will provide senior clinical and professional leadership and development to the therapy team. You will manage the team on a day-to-day basis and be a point of contact for advice and support for colleagues across the Therapies department.

You would be expected to work as part of our 7-day service where weekend working will be required and to be an integral part of the Respiratory on call evening (until 10pm) and weekend cover.

To perform a specialist Physiotherapy role within the Directorate clinical specialty, for patients on own caseload, many with complex/highly complex needs.

To act as a role model for clinical, operational and professional leadership, setting and upholding agreed standards and processes to enable patients to receive high quality evidence-based care.

To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy services within the trust, holding responsibility for defined projects and activities and providing regular feedback to Therapy and Clinical leads.

To regularly educate and supervise Therapy staff and students, and lead on teaching and training healthcare colleagues on aspects of clinical care relating to Physiotherapy.

Provide effective input into the work of the Trust to support the achievement of its vision and values.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

* Be the Clinical Lead Physiotherapist for the Acute Medicine Therapy Team.
* Manage a clinical caseload in area including complex cases and provide cover to other clinical areas as needed.
* Participate in 7-day working patterns, including Bank Holidays, and participate in a respiratory on-call service (evenings until 10pm and weekends).
* Provide clinical expertise and leadership to a large team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Support staff within the clinical area.
* Lead on annual appraisal of allocated staff and support continued learning and personal development plans.
* Identify and manage clinical performance issues within therapy staff in the clinical area.
* Develop working guidelines, protocols and practices in line with national and Trust policies in liaison with therapy leads.
* Lead on implementation of action plans from national and local strategies, benchmarks and clinical audits.
* Represent the therapy services at specialty and trust-wide forums and provide feedback to therapy teams.
* Deputise for other Therapy Leads as required.
* Lead the therapy team day-to-day, coordinate cover for absence and address operational issues; lead informal HR management tasks.
* Work with Heads of Therapies on budget, facilities and resources to provide a safe, high quality and cost-effective service.
* Lead on recruitment of staff with support from the Deputy Head of Therapies.
* Participate in policy and service development within the directorate, leading delegated projects under guidance of the Deputy Head of Therapies.
* Ensure staff have access to Trust policies and training; mentor and assess pre-registration and work experience students.
* Provide regular reports to the Deputy Head of Therapies and escalate risks or incidents as appropriate.
* Provide opportunities for staff to receive information and support, and facilitate forums for discussion, planning and development.
* Demonstrate high level understanding of illness, injury and disability and the complex interactions affecting Physiotherapy care.
* Identify, select, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions balancing risk, safety, patient choice and service eligibility.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers, clinical teams and other agencies; maintain accurate records in line with legal requirements.
* Apply and develop specialist knowledge to ensure fitness to practise as a Physiotherapist within the clinical area.
* Lead on improving patient and visitor experiences and development of patient information and feedback mechanisms.
* Promote evidence-based practice and audit processes; participate in national/local strategy/action plans and clinical audits.
* Promote safe and effective communication within therapy and multi-professional teams; provide clinical supervision and access to support for staff.
* Ensure staff complete mandatory training and develop personal professional development plans in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework.
* Oversee resource use and contribute to achieving performance targets.
* Lead on recruitment, staff development and investigation of complaints/adverse incidents with appropriate action and learning.
* Ensure annual reviews and development plans for all team members.
* Represent therapy services in trust-wide duties and meetings; act as a role model for customer service.
