The Role
As a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key leadership role within the mechanical team. You will oversee design delivery, manage client relationships, and ensure technical quality across multiple live projects. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer seeking greater autonomy and the opportunity to shape design strategy on flagship London schemes.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design elements across education, residential, and commercial projects from concept to completion
* Provide technical leadership, ensuring quality standards and best‑practice engineering principles
* Manage and mentor junior and intermediate engineers
* Engage with clients, architects, and project stakeholders to deliver coordinated building services solutions
* Oversee production of reports, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation
* Contribute to fee proposals, resource planning, and project budgeting
* Support the business in driving innovation and sustainable design approaches
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
* Chartered status (CEng) or working toward it is highly desirable
* Significant experience operating at Senior or Principal level within a UK building services consultancy
* Proven experience delivering mechanical design for education, residential, and commercial sectors
* Strong understanding of UK building regulations, sustainable design, and low‑carbon technologies
* Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills
* Ability to lead projects and manage design teams effectively
