An opportunity has arisen to provide a rotational Trust Grade post, the postholder will have the opportunity to cover placements in both the Medical and Surgical divisions here at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, as well as experience a community-based role based within the Dorset HealthCare team. The postholder will be part a team providing a core service to help support the safe delivery of care to the wards and the acute unselected on-call rotas. The postholder will be able to gain experience in a wide range of patients whilst being supported by the appropriate junior and senior team; ward duties will represent most of the candidates working time, including consultant-led ward round; on-call duties will make up the rest.
The postholder will have access to training opportunities and funded study leave and access to an ePortfolio will be offered.

Main duties of the job
This will be negotiated with the successful candidate and will depend upon their choices. On call duties will be proportional to the number of doctors within the grade (expectation is approx. 1:11 but cannot be more onerous than 1:9). Ward duties, GIM roles and the activities within the placement will fill most of the regular week, with the candidate’s choice of elective specialty activity, education and audit filling the rest of the time. The exact distribution will vary to allow for the on-call cycle, the specialty activities on offer and the needs of the service (be that the ward or the elective specialty). There is a commitment to offer the highest quality training and development that service needs will allow, while preserving at least the minimum elective time being offered.

* Full accident and emergency services for major and minor illnesses and injuries including a fracture clinic. This is one of the best performing units in the country.
* Emergency assessment and treatment services, including critical care (the hospital is a trauma unit).

* Maternity services, including midwife-led birthing unit, community midwifery support, antenatal care, postnatal care and home births. There is a Special Care Baby Unit.

* Service for older people, including an acute stroke unit.
* A newly built radiotherapy unit, delivering enhanced oncology services to the West Dorset population.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
* Medical Degree (MBBS, MChB or equivalent)
* Full GMC registration and a licence to practise is required
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
* At least 1 years clinical experience in general medicine
* Up to 1-year clinical experience in UK
* Experience of multidisciplinary working
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of assisting in or training in medical procedures
* Evidence of experience in NHS discharge planning
Current Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
* Evidence and understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
* Evidence of good oral and written English
