Description The UK & Ireland EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organisation’s Environment, Health & Safety programmes across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The primary focus of the role is on the UK (approx. 85%), with Ireland representing a smaller part of the scope (approx. 15%). Reporting directly to the Europe EHS Director, this role serves as the regional EHS subject-matter expert for both office-based operations and a mobile service organisation. The position requires a hands-on professional who combines regulatory expertise with strong field presence to drive a culture of safety excellence. Responsibilities EHS Strategy & Compliance Develop and execute the regional EHS strategy in alignment with corporate and European EHS objectives Ensure full compliance with UK EHS legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and associated statutory instruments. For Ireland, ensure compliance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 Monitor regulatory developments in the UK and Ireland, including guidance from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Irish Health and Safety Authority (HSA), and advise leadership on implications and required actions Maintain and update all required EHS documentation, including risk assessments, method statements, safety policies, and emergency procedures Field Audits & Inspections Conduct frequent field audits and safety inspections of the service organisation’s activities across the UK and Ireland, including customer sites and mobile operations Perform workplace inspections at company offices and operational locations to identify hazards and verify compliance Develop and track corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA) resulting from audits, inspections, and incident investigations Oversee contractor safety management and ensure third-party compliance with organisational EHS standards Electrical Safety – Field Service Operations Oversee the electrical safety framework for field service operations in the UK and Ireland, with a focus on the safe servicing, maintenance, and repair of electromechanical equipment such as ATMs and self-service terminals at customer sites. Work in collaboration with electrically qualified colleagues to ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 In cooperation with electrically qualified personnel, develop and maintain electrical safety procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programmes, safe isolation procedures, and safe systems of work. Ensure that field service personnel are assessed and authorised as competent persons under the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 Incident Management & Risk Assessment Lead incident and accident investigations using structured methodologies (e.g., root cause analysis, 5-Why, bow-tie analysis) Manage the reporting of occupational incidents under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) in the UK and equivalent requirements in Ireland Conduct and review risk assessments for office, workshop, and field service activities Analyse EHS data and KPIs to identify trends and drive continuous improvement Training & Culture Design and deliver EHS training programmes for employees, including safety inductions, toolbox talks, and role-specific training Champion a positive safety culture across all levels of the organisation, from field technicians to senior management Coordinate with competent persons and external health and safety advisors as required under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 Act as the primary EHS contact for internal stakeholders, employee representatives, and safety committees in the UK and Ireland Environmental Management Oversee environmental compliance, including waste management, emissions, and handling of hazardous substances in accordance with UK environmental legislation Support the implementation of the organisation’s sustainability objectives at the regional level Ensure compliance with applicable environmental permits and reporting obligations Qualifications Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Professional Certification If the candidate does not hold a degree in a Health and Safety related subject, a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent, e.g., British Safety Council) is required as a minimum. NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (Level 6) or equivalent – preferred. Experience 4–6 years of progressive experience in an EHS role, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial services, or field service environment Demonstrated experience conducting EHS audits, workplace inspections, and field safety assessments Working knowledge of electrical safety in the context of field service operations, including the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, safe isolation procedures, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) programmes. The ability to collaborate with electrically qualified colleagues to develop safe systems of work is key Experience with RIDDOR reporting and incident investigation in the UK Experience supporting a mobile or distributed workforce (service engineers, field technicians) is highly preferred Experience with Irish health and safety legislation and the HSA is desirable but not essential Skills & Competencies Thorough knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 Working knowledge of electrical safety as it applies to field service operations, with the ability to collaborate with electrically qualified colleagues to assess and manage electrical risks when servicing customer-sited equipment Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to safety improvement Self-motivated and able to work independently while maintaining high visibility in the field Proficiency in EHS management systems (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001) Proficient in MS Office; experience with EHS software platforms is a plus Languages Fluent in English (written and spoken) – required Any additional European language is a plus We are Armed Forces friendly.
