 
        
        Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated Therapeutic Support Worker for the Psychological Skills Service (PSS) to provide trauma-informed, formulation-driven support and brief psychological interventions. The role involves working with individuals who are not yet ready for full therapy and delivering a mix of face‑to‑face and online support. The position requires independent travel around the county and a full UK driving licence. Public transport cannot be used.
Key Responsibilities
 * Build and maintain therapeutic relationships that promote safety and compassion.
 * Support service users to make choices and identify recovery goals using empowerment skills.
 * Deliver short‑term, goal‑focused interventions to promote independence.
 * Help individuals identify values, reduce avoidance and overcome emotional and cognitive barriers.
 * Teach and model psychological skills such as emotional regulation, distress tolerance and problem solving.
 * Support sensory regulation through strategies and participation in the Coping Through the Senses group.
 * Enhance community integration by building social connections and signposting to practical support (housing, finance, employment).
 * Facilitate trauma‑focused group therapy by reinforcing skills and adapting materials for accessibility.
 * Maintain safety and stabilization to prepare clients for subsequent psychological therapy in line with the Neuro‑Sequential Model of brain development.
Essential Skills & Experience
 * Minimum 1 year of clinical experience within a mental health setting (e.g., inpatient, community team, learning disability, or third‑sector organisation).
 * Experience providing one‑to‑one support to people with mental health problems.
 * Practical experience supporting service users in problem‑solving, task grading, and structuring daily routines.
 * Good understanding of trauma‑informed care and the ability to apply psychological knowledge to mental health contexts.
 * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly in emotionally charged environments.
 * Demonstrated ability to assess professional boundaries, seek supervision and refer appropriately.
 * High level communication skills with ability to make reasonable adjustments for accessibility.
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
 * Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy or Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
 * Understanding of ASD/ADHD and how these relate to mental health.
 * Experience delivering therapeutic groups and working with psychologists or occupational therapists.
 * Knowledge of specific issues related to sensory impairments and the use of personal communication aids.
 * Willingness to develop skills and knowledge in psychological therapy delivery.
Qualifications
 * NVQ Level 3 or equivalent mental health qualification.
 * Good general education up to GCSE equivalent.
 * Willingness to undertake training to meet the NHS competency framework.
 * Evidence of relevant short course and in‑service training.
 * Any additional training focusing on supporting adults with mental health difficulties.
Additional Information
Travel independently around the county using a car is required; a full UK driving licence is mandatory.
