Job Summary
University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust – Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit Technician (Band 2). The closing date is 19 June 2026.
Shift Patterns
* Day shift: 06:00 – 14:00
* Twilight shift: 14:00 – 22:00
* Night shift: 22:00 – 06:00
* Saturday: 08:00 – 16:00 or 12:00 – 20:00
* Sunday: worked within the day shift or 22:00 – 06:00 on a rotating basis
* Permanent weekend service with a back‑fill day off during the week
* On‑call and bank‑holiday rota work is essential
Main Duties
As a HSDU Technician you will be responsible for receiving used surgical instruments, cleaning, disinfecting, packaging, sterilising and delivering them back to operating theatres, wards, departments, clinics and GP surgeries. You will also support the maintenance of the unit’s instruments and equipment, record logs, and assist with quality control checks.
Essential Qualifications
* Good standard of education with literacy and numeracy skills
* Basic computer skills and the ability to read small lettering on instruments
* Entry to the role requires no prior experience; full in‑house training will be provided
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience in a decontamination or industrial cleaning role
* Knowledge of infection‑control procedures
