Steelwork Draughtsman
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Steelwork Draughtsman to join our team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for producing precise, high-quality drawings and models for the fabrication and erection of structural steel components. Your work will directly support the successful delivery of commercial, residential, and industrial construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
Drawing & Detailing
* Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for structural steel components including beams, columns, frames, and connections.
* Create comprehensive fabrication, assembly, and erection drawings to support manufacturing and construction processes.
* Interpret engineering calculations, site surveys, and project specifications to inform drawing creation.
Collaboration
* Work closely with structural engineers, architects, project managers, and the fabrication/erection teams.
* Participate in project meetings to discuss design progress and resolve technical issues.
* Ensure drawings reflect current project requirements and site conditions.
Design Compliance & Quality Control
* Ensure all drawings adhere to relevant industry standards, including British Standards (BS) and Eurocodes.
* Conduct regular checks to confirm accuracy, completeness, and consistency with health and safety regulations.
* Identify and resolve discrepancies between design and site realities.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
* 2–5 years’ experience in steelwork drafting/detailing in the construction or engineering sector.
* Proficient in CAD software such as AutoCAD and/or Tekla Structures.
* Strong understanding of steel fabrication, assembly, and erection practices.
* Familiarity with British Standards (BS), Eurocodes, and construction regulations.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and structural calculations.
* Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Strong communication and teamwork capabilities.
Desirable
* Experience with 3D modelling or BIM platforms.
* Familiarity with on-site construction workflows.
* Valid CSCS card and/or health & safety awareness.
Working Environment
* Office-based role with occasional site visits.
* Full-time, Monday to Friday schedule.
