Consultant – General Medicine
We are excited to welcome a dynamic Consultant in General Medicine with good general medical experience and the ability to work closely with the MDT and specialty colleagues as necessary to ensure efficient patient journeys and high‑quality care. The successful candidate will be expected to agree a formal job plan with the Chief of Medicine within one month of taking up the post.
Key duties include:
* Manage a stable 27‑bed general medical ward and variable number of outliers (up to 35–40 patients over winter) alongside a second consultant.
* Provide clinical supervision and support to resident doctors, without formal educational supervision.
* Cross‑cover essential services when colleague(s) are on leave.
* Agree a formal job plan indicating the number of programmed activities and fixed sessions.
* Ensure compliance with local policies and procedures, attend mandatory training, and submit annual leave requests at least six weeks in advance.
* Participate in local and national QI initiatives and patient safety activities as required.
Additional information:
* Flexible working is encouraged; a consultant unable to work full‑time may be considered, with adjustments to the job plan discussed on an individual basis.
* The appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report from the Trust’s Occupational Health department.
* Consultants will be paid in accordance with the Terms and Conditions for Consultant Medical Staff and assimilated to the salary scale, taking account of all relevant Consultant service.
* Annual leave entitlement is thirty days per year.
