Senior Industrial Heritage Technician | Permanent | 37hrs | £28,142 - £32,062

Lancashire County Museum Service are currently recruiting a Senior Industrial Heritage Technician to lead a team of heritage technicians in the care, maintenance, and demonstration of working heritage machinery. This is an outstanding opportunity to join a team caring for the Lancashire textile industry collection – designated by Arts Council England as being of national importance.

Your new role

It will be in person and based at the museum sites of Helmshore in Rossendale and Queen Street Mill in Harle Syke, Burnley. It will be full time (37 hrs per week) and paid at Grade 6 (£28,142 - £32,062). As the Senior Industrial Heritage Technician, you will lead a team of staff and volunteers.

Your responsibilities will include:

* Managing the industrial heritage technical team including their training, deployment across two museum sites
* Managing the Health & Safety compliance for the maintenance and operation of all heritage machinery and site workshops
* Managing the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the working mill machinery in three mills across both sites. This includes:

* Power generation and delivery by means of waterwheel and steam engine

* The processes of Lancashire cotton spinning, cotton weaving and woollen fulling as interpreted at the museum sites
* Building partnerships with outside experts and local organisations to preserve the skills and knowledge required to operate historic machinery
* Monitoring performance and ensuring best practise

What we need from you

A science or engineering background focused on operating and maintaining historic machinery either from education, work experience, or pastime. An appreciation of the heritage sector, and willingness to gain an in-depth knowledge of the Lancashire textile industry. Demonstrable management ability and an excellent knowledge of Health & Safety at work procedures.
