The closing date is 19 May 2026

We are currently seeking experienced Clinical Pharmacists, at Band 7/8a (depending on experience) to work within our Pharmacy Department via a Bank Contract, based in Radlett. You will be joining our Temporary Staffing Team within HPFT - Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will contribute to the work of the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation team to deliver the standards set by regulators and professional bodies such as the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), Royal College of Pharmacy etc.

The post will be based at Radlett, however, the post holder will be expected to travel within the remit of Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust as necessary.

HPFT provides services for service users with mental health, learning disability and children's and adolescent mental health problems.

Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation team within HPFT provides dispensary and clinical pharmacy services to mental health, learning disability and CAMHS services on the Kingsley Green site, to other units and community-based teams across Hertfordshire and beyond, where HPFT is contracted to provide a service.

The service will be provided to all medical, nursing, managerial, pharmaceutical and clinical professionals working in Mental Health and Learning Disabilities in designated units for which the post holder will be responsible.

You will be responsible for the delivery of a specialist clinical pharmacy service to service users, medical and nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals in accordance with legal and professional requirements and standards.

The post holder will provide ward‑based medicines management service to specialist clinical areas.

About us

Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) is rated by the Care Quality Commission as an Outstanding provider of mental health and learning disability services. Feedback from our staff about working for the Trust is very positive and, in the NHS national staff survey, we regularly see a high percentage of staff saying their role makes a difference to our service users and that they would recommend the Trust as a place to work. Our people tell us they feel supported through a great development, wellbeing and work‑life balance offer and a highly compassionate, values‑driven culture. We are equally proud of our staff, who live our values of being welcoming, kind, positive, respectful and professional so that together we provide great care and great outcomes for our service users and carers.

Job responsibilities

The job will require planning and organisation of a broad range of complex activities and ongoing programmes to support the Strategy for Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation.

The post holder will be required to travel to designated units to provide a clinical pharmacy service, and to other sites covered by HPFT as needed to advise and provide training in Medicines Optimisation. This may require walking some distance and carrying laptop and teaching materials.

Provide training and education that meets the statutory, professional, and regulatory requirements of Pre‑Registration Trainee Pharmacists, other Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants.

Provide professional/clinical cover for dispensary services.

The job will require frequent use of VDU equipment every day and intense concentration in a sometimes‑noisy open plan office environment. The post holder may encounter challenging/hostile service users when visiting the mental health and learning disabilities units.

Deliver a comprehensive medicines optimiser service to wards and teams based within HPFT. This is to be in line with the HPFT clinical pharmacy standards.

Provide input into policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at both local and trust wide levels under the direction of the Lead Clinical Pharmacist.
